Quality Assurance - Safe Quality Food
Consumers have many reasonable expectations about the food that they eat. Primary amongst those is that food will not make them ill.
The primary cause of food borne illness is poor personal hygiene in food preparation. Personal hygiene is therefore a high priority in all facets of food preparation, from harvesting, through processing, in distribution, retail, catering and food service industries.
Many quality assurance standards exist to manage food health and safety. AUSTPARAGUS manages health and safety under the SQF 2000 Quality Assurance system; a HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points) based quality code for the food industry.
The SQF (Safe Quality Food) 2000 code is a documented system of testing and training designed to prove that food production processes result in product that is safe for human consumption. The code covers all aspects of production and all forms of contamination whether chemical, physical or biological. The code ensures that all inputs into production are at food grade standard and do not contaminate the product. The code also ensures plant and equipment is not a source of contamination and that staff observe personal hygiene standards, ensuring clean, safe quality products.
Always wash your hands before handling or preparing food. Cooking ensures good safe hygiene practices. For a tender and safe result add washed asparagus to a large saucepan of boiling water, bring back to the boil and drain within 1 to 3 minutes. Back to top
